Our picks at a glance

Prices checked 26 Oct 2026 on the Canadian stores linked below. We haven’t tested these toys ourselves.

What “tough” means on the label

“Indestructible” is a marketing word, and the makers we read don’t use it about their own toys. West Paw’s Rumpus page says “No dog toy is indestructible.” Tuffy’s says its toys “are designed as interactive play toys and not chew toys.” That’s useful to know before you spend money: the question isn’t which toy is unbeatable, it’s which maker is upfront about what the toy is for and what it’ll do if it fails.

Read the material first. Kong’s Extreme is a natural rubber the maker calls its toughest formulation, versus the standard red rubber of the Classic. West Paw makes its toys from Zogoflex, which it calls its “proprietary rubber material”. Tuffy’s makes plush toys with several layers of fabric and extra stitching, and rates each one on a 1 to 10 scale.

A durability rating is the maker’s opinion. A written guarantee tells you what the maker will actually do.

Then read the guarantee, if there is one. West Paw backs the Rumpus with “a one-time replacement guarantee against breaking”, and its notice to Canadian retailers says Canadian customers are directed back to the store they bought from instead of getting a toy shipped by West Paw. Kong’s and Tuffy’s pages we read showed no product guarantee. They mention only store returns.

On safety, we only repeat what the makers say, and we attribute it to them. West Paw tells owners to supervise play and to stop using a toy as soon as it’s damaged. Tuffy’s says the same, and adds that “Your dog’s safety is ‘Your’ Responsibility.” We’re not in a position to add to that, and we haven’t tested any toy.

Maker’s toughest rubber

Kong Extreme

$10.99 CAD shown · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · Small, Large, XL, XXL (Medium sold out)

The Kong Classic shape in black “Extreme” rubber. PetMax.ca’s page, quoting Kong’s copy, calls it “ultra-durable, natural rubber” that is “designed for determined chewers”, and says it’s the Classic “in its toughest formulation”, with a hollow centre for stuffing and an unpredictable bounce. The page lists one price across all sizes, so check the price for your size at checkout.

Pros
  • Kong says the rubber is “significantly tougher” than the Classic
  • Hollow centre for stuffing
  • Cheapest toy on this page
Cons
  • No product guarantee on the page, only the store’s return process
  • No weight ranges, so picking a size takes guesswork
  • Medium sold out when we looked

Replacement guarantee

West Paw Zogoflex Rumpus

$19.99 CAD · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · Small 5.25 in, Medium 6.25 in

A Zogoflex rubber toy with three chew zones that floats. West Paw says it’s “Designed for super chewers” and that it’s made in Bozeman, Montana. The Canadian listing quotes the guarantee as “Backed by a one-time replacement guarantee against breaking.” It also repeats West Paw’s own cautions: “No dog toy is indestructible”, “always supervise your dog’s use of this toy”, and “If damage occurs, please discontinue use of the toy immediately.”

Pros
  • Written one-time replacement guarantee
  • Maker’s listing says it’s non-toxic and dishwasher safe
  • Two sizes, in three colours
Cons
  • Replacement for Canadian buyers goes through the store you bought from (West Paw’s notice)
  • No numeric durability rating on the page
  • Replacement is “one time per toy shape”, per West Paw’s retailer notice

Stuffable

West Paw Zogoflex Tux

$31.99 CAD · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · Large 5 in (Small 4 in sold out)

A three-lobed Zogoflex toy with a hollow cavity for treats. The listing says it’s “Built with three solid lobes to withstand even the most powerful chewers”, floats, and is dishwasher safe. Those are the maker’s words as relayed by the retailer. The listing doesn’t carry the guarantee wording that the Rumpus page does.

Pros
  • Stuffable and floats
  • Dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Same maker guarantee policy as the Rumpus (see above)
Cons
  • Costs more than the Rumpus
  • Small was sold out and only one review was on the page
  • No guarantee text on this listing

Sources: PetMax.ca listing. West Paw’s own page for Toppl, a different toy, rates it 3 out of 5 on its durability scale and says it is “tough enough for most dogs” but not for the most aggressive chewers (PetMax.ca), so don’t assume every Zogoflex toy is for power chewers.

Tug and fetch

Tuffy’s Ultimate Ring

$20.99 CAD (list $27.99) · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · 28 × 28 × 5 cm

A plush ring rated 9 out of 10 on Tuffy’s own Tuff Scale, which the retailer describes as “extremely strong and really durable”. It has four squeakers sewn into fabric pockets and, per the brand’s general copy, webbing sewn around the edge. The page is clear about what it isn’t: “designed as interactive play toys and not chew toys”, with supervision needed at all times. It’s a tug-and-fetch toy for dogs over 9 kg (20 lb), not a toy to leave with a dog alone.

Pros
  • 9 out of 10 on the maker’s scale
  • Multi-layer construction and sewn-in squeaker pockets
  • Good for tug and fetch
Cons
  • Maker says it’s not a chew toy
  • No product-specific guarantee on the page
  • The scale is Tuffy’s own, not an independent test

How we chose

We started from toys sold in Canadian stores with a CAD price, then read the listing for materials, size, the maker’s own durability wording and any guarantee, and quoted those words rather than paraphrasing. We haven’t tested these toys ourselves, and we say nothing about teeth or choking beyond what the makers state, which we attribute to them. We left out GoughNuts, because we couldn’t find a Canadian price or a maker-published guarantee page, and Benebone, because we couldn’t find a Canadian listing. We don’t accept free products in exchange for picks, and none of the links on this page earn us a commission.

Questions

Is any of these toys indestructible?

Not according to the makers. West Paw’s Rumpus page says “No dog toy is indestructible”, and Tuffy’s says its toys are “not chew toys”.

What does the West Paw guarantee cover in Canada?

The Rumpus listing says it’s “Backed by a one-time replacement guarantee against breaking.” West Paw’s 2021 notice to retailers says Canadian customers go back to the store they bought from, and the replacement is one per toy shape. The notice is old, so ask the store for the current terms.

What should I do if a toy gets damaged?

West Paw’s listing says to “discontinue use of the toy immediately”, and Tuffy’s says to “remove the toy immediately” if damage starts to appear. Both also say to supervise play.
