Our picks at a glance

Prices checked 26 Oct 2026 on the Canadian stores linked below. We haven’t tested these towels ourselves; this is a comparison of specs and what makers and owners say.

What a post-walk towel has to do

The title says “test”, but this is a desk comparison. Nobody here has rubbed a wet dog down with these towels, so you won’t find a ranking by dryness. What we can do is line up what each maker or store actually says: the fabric, the size, the care instructions, and any absorbency claim, so you can see where the claims are specific and where they are not.

The first split is fabric. Three of the four products below are microfibre, a synthetic cloth. The fourth, a hooded robe, is a cotton-polyester terry. The second split is shape: a flat towel you wrap around the dog, a towel with hand pockets, or a garment the dog wears.

“Absorbent” is a claim, not a measurement. Only one of these pages puts a number on it.

That number is Messy Mutts’ “multiple times its weight in water”, which is still vague. Top Paw and Doggy Bathroom use words like “super absorbent” and “high absorption” with no figure at all. Treat all of it as the maker’s description.

Lowest price

Top Paw Quick-Drying Microfiber Bath Towel

$15.99 at PetSmart.ca · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · 21 × 41 in (53.3 × 104 cm)

The cheapest of the flat towels, and the longest with a listed size. PetSmart’s listing calls it microfibre, “incredibly absorbent” and quick-drying, and says it’s machine washable. At 104 cm it’s long enough to wrap a mid-sized dog, though the page doesn’t say what size dog the maker has in mind.

Pros
  • Lowest price of the four
  • Longest listed towel here at 104 cm
  • Machine washable
Cons
  • Fabric content beyond “microfiber” isn’t given
  • No care detail beyond “machine washable”
  • 26 reviews are counted, but the page shows no review text or average, so we can’t report owner themes

Doggy Bathroom Quick-Dry Dog Towel

$25.00 CAD · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · microfibre · size not listed

A lightweight microfibre towel sold on the Canadian store of Doggy Bathroom. The maker says it “draws moisture away from your dog’s coat quickly and efficiently” and suits baths, swims and rainy walks. The page lists 61 reviews and shows five testimonials, all positive: owners mention quick drying on a corgi, a travel-friendly size and that one dog adopted it as a blanket. Those five are what the maker chose to display, so read them as marketing, not a sample.

Pros
  • Machine wash cold, tumble dry low or hang
  • Lightweight and designed for easy storage, per the maker
  • Most review activity of the four
Cons
  • No dimensions on the page, so check before you rely on it for a big dog
  • Pricier than the Top Paw
  • Only maker-selected testimonials are visible

Hand pockets

Messy Mutts Ultra Soft Dog Towel

$23.00 CAD · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · Medium, 32 × 20 in (81 × 51 cm) · backordered

A 100% plush microfibre towel with two hand pockets on the back, which makes rubbing paws and a wriggly dog easier. The maker says it “will soak up to multiple times its weight in water” and that the fibre creates an electrostatic charge with dirt particles. On 26 October the page said it was backordered and would ship when back in stock.

Pros
  • Hand pockets for drying paws
  • The only listing with any absorbency figure, even a vague one
  • Machine washable
Cons
  • Backordered on 26 Oct
  • Maker says avoid fabric softeners and hang to dry
  • No reviews shown on the page

Wearable, cotton blend

Canada Pooch Beach Bum Towel Hoodie

$40.99–$73.99 CAD by size · price checked 26 Oct 2026 · sizes 8–28 in · blue or pink

The only cotton-blend option: a terry hoodie, 70% cotton and 30% polyester, that the dog wears. Homes Alive describes it as a two-in-one hoodie whose terry fabric “can be used as a towel to help dry your dog.” Notably, the page makes no absorbency claim of its own. Sizing is by back length (8 to 28 in), with a chest girth maximum listed for each size.

Pros
  • Dog wears it, so hands stay free
  • Size chart gives back length and chest girth
  • Machine wash inside out, cold, gentle
Cons
  • Most expensive by far, and price climbs with size
  • Hang to dry; spot clean or gentle cold wash only
  • No reviews on the page

Questions

Can I use fabric softener on a microfibre dog towel?

Messy Mutts says to avoid fabric softeners to prolong the towel’s performance, and to hang it to dry. Doggy Bathroom’s instructions are cold gentle wash, then tumble dry low or hang.

How do I wash the Beach Bum hoodie?

Homes Alive’s listing says to fasten the closure, then spot clean or machine wash inside out on a gentle, cold cycle. It says not to bleach, iron or dry clean, and to hang it to dry.

How is the hoodie sized?

By back length, from 8 to 28 inches. The listing also gives a chest girth limit for each size: for example, size 8 fits chests up to 15 in and size 28 up to 36 in.

How we chose

We looked for towels and robes sold on Canadian stores with prices we could see, then read each maker’s or retailer’s page for fabric, size, care and absorbency wording. We haven’t tested these products ourselves, and the title’s “test” refers to the comparison, not to any wet-dog trial. Where a page shows no review text, we say so rather than guess at owner opinion. We looked for a microfibre drying coat sold on a Canadian store page we could read, but didn’t find one, so none is included. We don’t accept free products in exchange for picks, and none of the links on this page earn us a commission.
